are x86 only, and would never have been processed on a sparc import.
Though given my recent performance, I'll do a sparc import just to be on

No, I think you're right. I saw that SUNWckr had moved from i386
to common, but didn't pickup on the ramdisk line(s) being prefixed
by $(i386_ONLY).
