Embedding a link in the main "PKG Name tab" is certainly do-able (and easy) [[ HOME: http://..... ]] or something.. No particular value add, locale-ity, or integration... (not a big fan of pop-ups).... but having said that -- I can see how on the list of priorities this may be a good way to go.
The "interesting" piece here is that if the framework in the pkg-manger points to say an openSolaris.org hosted wiki-back-end, the heavy lifting (populating the data) could potentially be done by the community -- not just the OpenSolaris community.... (and if the details tab is EMPTY, it might point the user to a wiki/URL they can follow to populate according to their locale?) I'm actually surprised there isn't already some sort of "general Application Inventory" type of service somewhere on the net. Something along the lines of: "*CDDB* (which stands for *C*ompact *D*isc *D*ata*b*ase) is a licensed trademark of Gracenote <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracenote>, Inc. It is a database <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database> for software<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software> applications <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software> to look up audio CD (compact disc <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_disc>) information over the Internet <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet>. This is performed by a client which calculates a (nearly) unique disc ID<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identifier>and then queries the database. As a result, the client is able to display the artist name, CD title, track list and some additional information." Just a though.. thanks, -- MikeE _______________________________________________ pkg-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-discuss
