This webrev fixes a pair of tracebacks. The changes are very small, <

With the addition of bugs 10009 and 10010, this webrev has grown some.
This should address a bunch of the timeout problems that folks have been
seeing recently. I'm still testing the changes, but it looks good so
far. I thought I'd send this out early, in case any of the changes turn
out to be controversial. IMO, this is a straight-forward change.
