Hi All,
I haven¹t posted to the list before. My name is Benn Cizauskas from
Dept. of Computing at Imperial College in London. I met with James last
night at the OpenSolaris monthly meeting @ Regis house. I¹m a long time
supporter of Solaris and a new OpenSolaris user. I was wondering if the
OpenSolaris community, and specifically the package/repository guys (you)
needed a UK mirror ?
If so, how much space and bandwidth would you need?
We always welcome more mirrors, and I'm certain our UK users would
greatly appreciate it.
With that said, the current space requirements are fairly huge (around
30 GiB?). That's using our current mirroring mechanism found here:
http://opensolaris.org/os/project/pkg/Mirroring/
However, we plan on releasing a repository ISO snapshot for 2009.06 soon
that would allow you to mirror only the 2009.06 release and its
unbundled packages, which will only require around 7.4 GiB.
I believe you can expect bandwidth usage to be at least 5MB/s, and for
that to scale much higher depending on how many UK mirror users you get
and how much bandwidth you can push. Dan Price would probably have a
better idea of the actual numbers.
Cheers,
