It's unclear to me why renaming all the variables was part of this bug.
Because the image variables shouldn't be exposed and this was an
image-related change. However, I've moved those fixes to a separate
changeset.
If I'm correct that the only practical change to the code is in lines
901-906, and not in the rest of the lines that have been changed, that
change looks right to me.
