Is this always going to be the answer - to tell us not to use what's
been provided because it's unsuitable and tell us to roll our own?
Considering you've repeatedly told us that you often use tarballs as
your existing software distribution mechanism for this and many other
reasons, it would seem SVR4 packaging is not sufficient either.
Further discussion here seems fruitless unless you can document a
real-world scenario with SVR4 where you needed this functionality and if
you can move beyond your narrow focus on having the pkg(1) have it
integrated as opposed to providing other tools to accomplish the same task.
