For the record, I didn't have to disable my repo first.

So performing an update leaves me with a system restored to official
stability and a list of packages in my local repo awaiting re-evaluation
for re-installation. That's the desired outcome, really.

Right now, part of re-installation would include re-publishing the
packages with updated version numbers to match the current dev build.
But, if I'm reading Bart's comment on bug 2610 [1] correctly, perhaps
all I'd ultimately need to do is a 'pkg reinstall' for those I wished to
restore.(??) If so, this whole process would be quite doable.
