Hi - in the GUI at present we have a problem showing accurate "latest available version" information for Packages:

When we click on a Package to get its details we'd like to be able to show the not the "latest version" in the Publisher's repository bu the actual "latest available version" of that package.

- For uninstalled packages this would be the version that would be installed on the users system if they choose to install it and it was actually possible to install it, not necessarily the latest version in the Publisher's repo, which is what we currently display.

- For installed packages it would be the upgrade version if one was available and if it was actually possible to upgrade to, again not necessarily the latest version in the Publisher's repo

At present the only way to accurately do this is by doing a plan evaluation which is expensive. Does anyone have any ideas how this might be accomplished without having the clients run some type of plan evaluation? It is certainly useful information to surface to the user.

My general suggestion has been to use plan_update_all, etc. but that is obviously not a speedy solution.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Cheers,
