Now that you mention it - "jds" really needs to be "desktop" or "gnome",
unless you want calls from management, marketing and legal about how we
really don't want to use the Java trademark for the desktop in
OpenSolaris.
The breakdown in your current list between jds & gnome also seems
weird - for
instance, some of the SUNWgnome-* packages are "jds", others are
"gnome",
I'd assume they'd all belong in the same consolidation.
Also, the "imps" name hasn't been used since Solaris 2.4 or so
(sometime well
before I started at Sun), though we never got the old SVR4 package
database
corrected. All of the "imps" and "fox" packages should be
"consolidation/X".
These initial names came from the RE list of package owners. I think
"consolidating" the names :) is a fine idea but it would be good if the
consolidation owners could provide suitable names here like you did.
As an FYI, the owner names are chosen by the package owners at the time
they integrate their SVR4 packages to RE (the "-l" option of integrate).
Since most of these packages have been around Solaris for a long time,
they just haven't changed their owner names since their initial
integrations.
