Looks like there may be some related problems with the GUI, too, as it uses
putenv. I also see ldtp using it. I don't know if any of these are going
to have actual repercussions, though.

When I grepped for putenv, I didn't see any in our code, except for
ldtp. I gave that the benefit of the doubt that they're using it
correctly. From a quick look at the gui code, it's not going to hit this
problem I don't think. The possible exception would be setting the
homedir in packagemanager.py, but I assume if that was actually not
working, it would be clearly broken on use. I believe it's being set
there for external processes like gconf. I'll defer to the team working
on packagemanager to make sure their use of putenv is doing what they want.
