The following webrev contains fixes for the following issue:
12991 pkg image-create can trigger excessive number of stat calls

Summary:
Dropped number of stat calls on my system for image-create using
http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev repository from 112,000+ to about 1900.
(Before you ask, over 1K of those are just python startup.)
This (disappointingly) had very little impact on the total time for
image-create, but its still helpful (on some systems moreso than others).
