I was talking to Enda and it turned out to be 130dpi font resolution
settings in the Font Rendering Details under Appearance Preferences. The
default is 96dpi.

In 130 when i start packagemanger gui, I am presented with "featured
packages", which even with glasses I could barely ead on my laptop,
it seems to be an image as I can not make the text any larger. Also
is recommending packages like openoffice that I all ready have
installed.
But the text is way too small for me to be reading even with 20/20
using glasses.
Could you send a screenshot? The start page is legible on my
system, so we'll probably need to see what font you're getting.
