Understood. Is the plan to use the package history as the means of
documenting dependencies such as this one? I'm concerned about spurious
and anachronistic dependencies being maintained even as the code base
obviates their need.
I can't speak to your other question directly, but no.. in addition to the
history, the hope is that manual dependencies will be commented by the
developers who introduce them. But, as with all comments, that's not
currently a guarantee. My apologies for not doing the archeology for each
of the initial manual dependencies introduced.
