This is used by the mdns depot server.  It runs with the privilige of a
normal user, instead of becoming root and dropping its privs.


any reason your not just using the existing daemon/daemon uid/gid?

also, it seems like dropping privs would be good regardless on uid.
presumably you don't need privs to to fork/exec/access proc/etc.
perhaps an rfe?

The depot server currently requires fork/exec. If the mDNS server is part of it, it too has the same requirement.
