Hi All,
I was wondering if there were any gotchas or points of note when fronting pkg5
servers with a CDN (Content Delivery Network such as Akami). I notice
pkg.opensolaris.org is fronted by Akami.
I'm guessing it should be pretty straight forward, but thought I should check
just to be sure.
In general, all requests to the depot server are cacheable, with the
exception of the /filelist/ operation which is POST-based and is used by
clients before b118 (so 2009.06 and older and some dev builds).
The other thing to be aware of is that you'll likely want to either dump
your web cache every time a push is made to the repository the webcache
is caching, or you'll want to set the /catalog/1/catalog.attrs resource
to not be cached so that when you push a new build clients connecting to
the web cache will be able to see it immediately.
Erik is in the process of adding a sample apache configuration to our
gate that you can use a reference.
