How was this tested? (In other words, was the active number of
connections checked to see if pooling was really happening as expected?)
I tested it using the same method that Ed used in the bug. I ran the
command (modulo changing the IP address being grepped on) and saw that
the number of connections in TIME_WAIT went up to either 2k or 20k (i
forget the magnitude now, but it was large) when using the gate bits.
When I ran the command after my changes, the number of connections in
TIME_WAIT was exactly 0. If there's other information you'd like, just
let me know how to gather it and I'll let you know what the results are.
