Hello Bill,

The downloadable SRU image is only an incremental one and should be used
in conjunction with a complete repository. There is a README in the image detailing it's use. If you use it with a complete repository
then you should find it updates.

The readme does not say that you CANT do what Bill suggested. So it would be helpful to add that. I also had this problem.

That being said, I think I tried the actually documented step, of

3.1 Repository Setup

3.1.1 Using the ISO Image Directly

This says you can use the repo standalone, without being "in conjunction with a complete repository".

I ran into similar problems.
I used the update repo. Then pointed at a new local mount of
sol-11_1-repo-full.iso

Yet only one package got updated.

Also, the README for the update repo does not address what you should expect as the end result.

For example, my test machine, is
FMRI: pkg://solaris/entire@0.5.11,5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.0:20111020T143822Z

Is that before the "update repo" was successful, or after?
I tried updating fro the update repo. No changes.
But then trying to update from the new 11_1 full repo, doesnt give changes either, other than 1 file!!

Then a second attempt of "pkg update" gives massive failure.

This may indicate an overly constrained set of packages are installed.

The following indicates why the system cannot update to the latest version:
