I recently filed this upstream, and now I noticed it here as well. The bug is still present in evolution 2.6. The IMAP server I use is running courier-imap version 3.0.84-sarge5. A workaround is to configure courier to accept SSLv3 when STARTTLS is used; the default is to only allow TLSv1.
