Package: evolution
Version: 2.2.2-4
Severity: normal
The cut-and-paste interaction in evolution's "To:" field (at least)
seems to be very bizarre:
* If I type '[email protected], ' in the "To" field, select
'[email protected]', and middle-click at the end of the field
while the text is still selected, it will paste.
* If I select the same text, but then left-click (so that the text
is no longer selected), and _then_ middle-click, nothing pastes, even
if the selection had previously contained something.
* If I select the whole field ('[email protected], ',
including the comma and space), and then middle-click at the end of the
field while the text is still selected, the text will deselect but
nothing will paste.
* No matter what I do, I cannot make text selected in the "To" field
paste outside evolution.
* If I select text within an evolution message, I can paste it
outside evolution. So far so good. If I select text within the "To"
field, though, then the selection reverts to its _previous_ contents --
whatever was in it _before_ I selected text from within the message.
In all of these examples, I speak of the PRIMARY selection, not the
CLIPBOARD. It seems to me that the correct behavior would be to place
whatever is selected into the PRIMARY selection, and paste the PRIMARY
selection on a middle mouse click, and any other behavior is (a) more
difficult to implement and (b) wrong. I'm sorry for being snide, but,
er, isn't that right?
See http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.html for more.
