Status in “crystalspace” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

Bug description:
When I upgraded to 8.10, applications using Crystal Space failed to make sound.
The sndtest application segfaulted very early. After installing 8.10 on my new
desktop, the same error occured. It is urgent I find a way to make sound as I
have a development plan to stick to and 8.04 does not have CD ROM drivers for
my other machine.
My application gives:

DEBUG: Sound System Software Renderer Initializing...
ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.

and continues to run. Sndtest gives:

DEBUG: Sound System Software Renderer Initializing...
ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.
Segmentation fault

and due to the segfault, it obviously crashes directly after. I compiled
version 1.2.1 of Crystal Space from http://www.crystalspace3d.org. Thank you
for looking this over.
