I don't think this is fixed - see:

psql <databasename> -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.4-postgis/postgis.sql
psql template_gis -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.4-postgis/postgis.sql
The file name might be correct, but the path is still wrong.
