libhdf5-dev == libhdf5-serial-dev, is it just a renaming. I think you are confusing with an other hdf5 packages, with the current release, I get: $ grep H5_HAVE_PARALLEL /usr/include/H5pubconf.h /* #undef H5_HAVE_PARALLEL */ $ dpkg -l|grep hdf5-dev ii libhdf5-dev 1.8.12+docs-1 amd64 Hierarchical Data Format 5 (HDF5) - development files - serial version Could you double check?
