Package: eclipse
Version: 3.1.2-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I installed the "eclipse" and "eclipse-jdt" packages (oddly the latter
doesn't depend on the former; should it?).

Running "eclipse" in a shell window gives a dialog asking where to put
the workspace dir; I answer "/usr/local/eclipse", then it gives me a
progress bar showing it's loading all sorts of things ... and then
eventually when it seems have finished, it displays a an "error" window,
showing a rather cryptic message (unlike some of the other reported
problems, there's no apparent log file to look at):

   JVM terminated. Exit code=1
   /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/bin/java
   -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni
   -Dgnu.gcj.precompiled.db.path=/var/lib/gcj-4.1/classmap.db
   -Dgnu.gcj.runtime.VMClassLoader.library_control=never
   -Dosgi.locking=none
   -jar /usr/share/eclipse/startup.jar
   -os linux
   -ws gtk
   -arch x86
   -launcher /usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse
   -name Eclipse
   -showsplash 600
   -exitdata 120013
   -install /usr/share/eclipse
   -vm /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/bin/java
   -vmargs
   -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni
   -Dgnu.gcj.precompiled.db.path=/var/lib/gcj-4.1/classmap.db
   -Dgnu.gcj.runtime.VMClassLoader.library_control=never
   -Dosgi.locking=none
   -jar /usr/share/eclipse/startup.jar

At this point I don't know what to do. If I click the "close" button
on the error window, it goes away, but the eclipse splash window stays
(apparently doing nothing) and I have to kill eclipse manually.

Since reportbug doesn't list all related package, here's the complete
list of what aptitude says will be removed if I un-install eclipse:
