with 1.4.3 which is in Debian now. Release 2.0.0 contains a number of
bug fixes, but most importantly, many extras such as hit highlighting

Great news. By the way, when using pbuilder, I had to add contrib and
non-free to the sources (using OTHERMIRROR="deb
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free"). Because the
sun-java5 packages requires you to read and accept a EULA, also 'export
DEBIAN_FRONTEND="readline"' (at least, something else than
"non-interactive") is needed in the .pbuilderrc. I don't know if that
affects the Debian automatic building system, but I think it probably does.
Good to mention as soon as the first Fails-To-Build-From-Source bug
is filed. :) In immediate practical terms, we're a little bit ok since this
package is architecture independent. The autobuilders should keep their
grubby little hands off the package for a while.
Regarding becoming a Debian developer, that would be nice too, although
I'm not planning on contributing on too many different packages. There's
work and family, too :-) At least I'd continue caring for the lucene2
package, and maybe one or two others, based primarily on my own needs.
If I find bugs in other packages, I'd report them and maybe send a patch
too, of course... Anyway, I'll try to get my GPG key signed by a
developer in my neighbourhood. The Developer's Reference says I also
need an advocate to apply. Could I register you as my advocate?
Sure. Keep me posted on when/where I should write my recommendation.
Good luck with the process - it is long but ultimately very worthwhile.
