severity 401713 grave merge 401713 425899 thanks This is a known problem, fixed in sid. I think the reason is the "set -e" near the top of /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5. You can try removing that line as a workaround.
(Or preferably upgrade to the version in sid, since there are a number of other problems with 5.5.20-2.) Marcus
