After upgrading eclipse, I tried to run a maven build which failed
with "Could not initialize class com.ibm.icu.impl.JavaTimeZone".
Googling around for a solution (I was in sort of a hurry) I came up
with a thread in the Eclipse Forums, which mentioned an additional
problem that came with this one: Project Properties windows fail to
open, reporting invalid values. Once I was convinced this was the
case, I patched the jar suggested by the link and now it works.

which was a bug in openjdk-6. If you still see this problem after
upgrading to openjdk-6 version 6b18-1.8.2-2 or later, please write back
