Hi James,
this seems to be an issue that we fixed already long time ago. I think in 2.6 or in 2.7.
This error happens if you create a spreadsheet as a child of a workbook and we fail to load
this structure properly in the older releases.
As a workaround, just create a "stand-alone" spreadsheet without using the workbook.
As a permanent and more preferred solution, please update to the last release 2.8.1.
A lot of work and many improvements were done after 2.5 and I'd really recommend you
to use the most recent version of LabPlot.
Please check the recent blog posts on labplot.kde.org if you want to get an overview of
what was changed after 2.5.
