--- Begin Message ---Package: xfce4 Version: 22.214.171.124 Severity: normal XFCE4 seems to break in odd ways when the Gtk-Qt theme engine has previously been configured (through the KDE Control Center, for instance). Apparently, XFCE reads the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file, which is modified by Gtk-Qt to read in part : include "/usr/share/themes/Qt/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" gtk-theme-name="Qt" and goes on to apply this setting. The results varied in my tests (sometimes I got to see the background, and/or the panels, sometimes I just got a blank X11 mesh) but the pattern was always the same: The splash screen appears, the ``Tip Of The Day'' window runs, and then nothing works (if the panels appear, they're not functional; applications can't be launched). Here are the contents of my ~/.xsession-errors prior to the CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE: Xsession: X session started for wsapplegate at dimanche 6 août 2006, 15:00:27 (UTC+0200) XRender Not initializing the Gtk-Qt theme engine Not initializing the Gtk-Qt theme engine XRender XRender XRender Simple workarounds include removing the `gtk2-engines-gtk-qt' package, or moving the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file out of the way. They're not ideal, though, and such a malfunction can confuse users (it did confuse me, anyway). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers experimental APT policy: (600, 'experimental'), (550, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-rc3-k7 Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to fr_FR.UTF-8) Versions of packages xfce4 depends on: ii gtk2-engines-xfce 126.96.36.199-1 A GTK+-2.0 theme engine for Xfce ii thunar 0.3.2beta2-1 File Manager for Xfce ii xfce4-icon-theme 188.8.131.52-1 Xfce Standard icon theme ii xfce4-mcs-plugins 184.108.40.206-2 Special modules for the xfce4-mcs- ii xfce4-panel 220.127.116.11-3 The Xfce4 desktop environment pane ii xfce4-session 18.104.22.168-1 Xfce4 Session Manager ii xfce4-utils 22.214.171.124-1 Various tools for Xfce ii xfdesktop4 126.96.36.199-2 Provides desktop background and ro ii xfwm4 188.8.131.52-1 window manager of the Xfce project ii xfwm4-themes 184.108.40.206-1 Theme files for xfwm4 Versions of packages xfce4 recommends: pn orage <none> (no description available) pn xfce4-mixer <none> (no description available) ii xfce4-terminal 0.2.5.4beta2-1 Xfce terminal emulator pn xfmedia <none> (no description available) pn xfprint4 <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information
