Package: xfce4
Version: 4.3.90.2
Severity: normal

XFCE4 seems to break in odd ways when the Gtk-Qt theme engine has
previously been configured (through the KDE Control Center, for
instance). Apparently, XFCE reads the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file, which is
modified by Gtk-Qt to read in part :

include "/usr/share/themes/Qt/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
gtk-theme-name="Qt"

and goes on to apply this setting. The results varied in my tests
(sometimes I got to see the background, and/or the panels, sometimes I
just got a blank X11 mesh) but the pattern was always the same: The
splash screen appears, the ``Tip Of The Day'' window runs, and then
nothing works (if the panels appear, they're not functional;
applications can't be launched). Here are the contents of my
~/.xsession-errors prior to the CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE:

Xsession: X session started for wsapplegate at dimanche 6 août 2006, 15:00:27
(UTC+0200)

Simple workarounds include removing the `gtk2-engines-gtk-qt' package,
or moving the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file out of the way. They're not ideal,
though, and such a malfunction can confuse users (it did confuse me,
anyway).
