I wanted to use digikam as I did it since years.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I changed in the album tree view into an album in which an Apple
QuickTime movie lays.
I can reproduce the situation everytime I want. Therefore I do the
following steps:
1. Start digikam
2. Open an album folder without such an Aplle movie file
3. copy or move such a file into that folder
4. digikam chrashes at once
I did an strace of this situation. If someone wants to look at it,
please ask for it.

digikam crashes at once.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
That digikam shows the thumbnails in the album view.
