OK, I've tested this on a new install (on 32-bit rather than 64-bit, but otherwise similar) and I definitely can't reproduce it. Here are some reasons why the server might be unable to connect: * There might already be a copy of scsynth running (e.g. from a previous attempt) -- use top/htop to check, or use "killall scsynth" before trying again. * There might be some other service blocking the port (the port is listed in the output, 57110) -- use netstat -a to check. * There might be some firewall program running or suchlike, or some unusual network configuration (e.g. no 'localhost')? If any of them turn out to be what's happening for you, please let us know. If anyone else can reproduce please tell us.
