Package: vlc Version: 2.2.1-1 Tags: patch I tested both vlc in stable and unstable, and both have this problem.
When trying to see a video recording from the Norwegian National Broadcasting (NRK) without flash, there is an option to play using an external player. This option would work with VLC if the VLC desktop file listed the 'video/vnd.mpegurl' MIME type in its 'MimeType' field. To reproduce, start iceweasel or firefox, and visit a web page with embedded video on the NRK web site, for example <URL: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/blindpassasjer >. If your browser lack flash support, notice how a warning about not being able to play the video appear. There is a link 'innstillinger' to the <URL: https://tv.nrk.no/innstillinger > web page, where it is possible to select 'Link til avspilling med HLS' (link to play using HLS), which changes the web pages to provide a m3u playlist files handed out with the 'video/vnd.mpegurl' mime type. After pressing 'Lagre' (Save), try visiting the embedded video page again. This time it is possible to press the 'play' symbol to start an external player. With VLC installed and the MIME type listed in the desktop file, it is presented as an option to play the video, and the video plays just fine with vlc. But the current desktop file lack this MIME type, and VLC do not show up as an option. If the totem player is installed, it will show up as an option, but I prefer VLC and would very much like it to show up as an alternative instead. Please add the MIME type to the desktop file. I'm tagging the bug 'patch' even if I do not provide a diff, as the fix is to add 'video/vnd.mpegurl;' to the end of the line starting with MimeType= in the desktop file, and a diff might quickly become obsolete when new MIME types are added to the file. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen _______________________________________________ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
