--- Begin Message ---Package: ffmpeg-debian Severity: important Tags: help ffmpeg still gets these 'shlib-with-non-pic-code' lintian errors, although the package is build with '-fPIC -DPIC' as required by policy. The patch I've committed to git reduced the amount of these errors from 14 to 6. More work needs to be done to find the remaining places which causes these TEXTRELs to appear in the resulting binaries. Any help is welcome. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dashsignature.asc

--- Begin Message ---Hi, This only affects i386, where non-pic code is used for performance reasons. I'm closing this wontfix bug now, because I think the topic is sufficiently documented in the lintian overrides, e.g.: # According to Debian policy [1], non position independent code is permitted # in a shared library on i386 and position independent code may have a # performance penalty, especially on i386. # Therefore -fPIC is not used by the upstream build system on i386. # 1: https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/footnotes.html#f83 libavcodec57 [i386]: shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/i386*/libavcodec.so.* Best regards, Andreas
