Hi. Thanks for your information. You're probably hitting a known bug, see below.

You're using the Sun proprietary virtual machine, which of course is not supported by Debian. There are instructions below to use the free OpenJDK virtual machine. >> Are you using the variable JAVACMD you can choose which virtual >> machine use. > > No, I am not familiar with JAVACMD, so I dont think i am using it. Sorry, my fault, that wasn't a question. :-) >> Could you test it with different VMs? > > I can, but I would need some help to know how to do that. I am very > unfamiliar with Java VMs. Try this command: JAVACMD=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java josm (after installing openjdk-6-jre). >> Which window manager are you using? > > I am using the awesome windowmanager This is a quite common problem with non-reparenting window managers like awesome (and many others). See, for example, [1], which is the same bug for OpenJDK (that should be fixed by now). Probably it's still not fixed in Sun's Java Runtime Environment. [1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=508650 If you confirm that you don't have problems with OpenJDK, I'll close the bug, since the bug is not in Josm, but in the virtual machine you're using.
