Package: josm
Version: 0.0.svn5047+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
JOSM has only a changelog.Debian.gz which gives just a brief mention
that it got a new tested snapshot. See for instance :-
/usr/share/doc/josm$ zcat changelog.Debian.gz | less
josm (0.0.svn5047+dfsg1-1) unstable; urgency=low
* New tested snapshot
* Fix wrapper script to detect newer versions of OpenJDK
(Closes: #661942)
* Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.3, no changes needed

But there is no way for a person to know what got
changed/added/deleted whatever in the new snapshot. It would be nice
to have a changelog.gz which tells the changes between the two
versions similar to say for e.g. like leafpad does :-
/usr/share/doc/leafpad$ ls
changelog.Debian.gz changelog.gz copyright README
As can be seen there is a changelog.Debian.gz which tells/shares about
the packaging diffs that were made for each release as well as a
changelog file which tells/shares what got changed or added to the
newest release in leafpad. It would be nice if we can have that.I know
I could put it as wishlist but this IMHO is really needed to know what
the changes are.

Unfortunately there's no "wontfix" in Debian. But let me explain why I'm
closing it. :)

Unfortunately, upstream doesn't provide a human-friendly changelog. I could
generate a svn log, but it would be rather unuseful. Instead, what upstream
does (and that suffices, to me -- if it doesn't for you, you should file a
bug to http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ ), is to put relevant news in the "JOSM
startup page". There you see major differences introduced, with the
corresponding SVN revision.
Kindly,
David
