Public bug reported:

The man page for rename(1p) states that:

  rename 's/\e.bak$//' *.bak

will rename all files matching "*.bak" to strip the ".bak" extension
(see attachment).

This example doesn't work as the '\e' is not needed at all.

This affects at least the version in Ubuntu 16.04 (but not the version
in 14.04).

** Affects: libfile-rename-perl (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
