Enblend embeds a modified version of the VIGRA 1.4 library. However,
this library is already packaged for Debian[1]. It would be great if the
necessary changes were pushed to VIGRA's upstream and Enblend started to
use system version of the library, rather than an embedded copy.

I fully agree that this would be desirable. However, I do not know the
status of getting those changes integrated into libvigraimpex upstream
or whether someone is working on that at all.

With this E-mail, I'm thus forwarding the issue to the upstream
developers, hoping for some feedback. Please keep

I attach diff between VIGRA 1.4 and the code present in the Enblend
sources. Please note that VIGRA 1.5 and 1.6 has been already released
(although the latter one it is not yet in Debian[2]), so some of the
missing features might have been already implemented upstream.

Just noting a couple of things:

This problem effects hugin as well as enblend, hugin also includes an older version of the vigra library.

There is a patch to sync the hugin version to vigra-1.6, this needs to be applied (although ultimately the intention is to remove this code from hugin and move it all upstream).

vigra in enblend should be upgraded too if it can't be removed.
