I'm still trying to build up my git-foo and find a proper way to layer the branches covering the various ubuntu versions we need to cover. In the past I just used the debian directory from a debian release and added the PPA bits to this. This had the disadvantage that I had to redo some modifications over and over again because older ubuntu versions used different libraries than the current one. The whole process was rather tedious and error prone. In the future, I'd like to have a repo that I can use to filter down the changes required for the backports from either the actual debian release or my own changes (which I planned to send as patches to you). If this really works out, I will publish the repo and the documentation for it. However, this will take some more time as my experience with git leaves something to be desired.
