building looked promising - yet switching to 1.9.1 and using actually hiera did not work :( .. for the sake of it, I even tried building the master branch => same result. I'll do some more testing tomorrow and see if I can nail it down and report back upstream (or if it's another issue that I might've overseen at the moment).
Gonna keep you posted! In any case - is 0.3.0-1 still an option until 1.0.0 is final?
