This should work now, as long as you don't remove the sysvinit package
when switching to systemd.
The systemd-sysv compat tools will then forward the "init 6" request to
/lib/sysvinit/init as provided by the sysvinit package.

That change was implemented in systemd 204-11, the relevant changes to
the sysvinit package were implemented in 2.88dsf-53.3
