I currently spend all the time I can spend on Debian on the dependency based boot sequencing stuff. Check all packages in the archive for header consistency, check bugs discovered by piuparts, report bugs to the BTS, push maintainers to fix their packages and NMU pacages where the maintainer do not respond. I would very much like help on this, to make sure all packages in Squeeze will work properly with dependency based boot sequencing. As I am unable to spend more time on Debian, I hope someone else will look into the invoke-rc.d/policy-rc.d issues.
