Comming from another distribution I found debians initscripts
quite peculiar. Besides the many issues allready worth fixing and already
reported, the naming of some scipt is not very uniform.
(And IMHO most issues aren't really initV related and not
only resolvable by a new init system.)
A better name for ifupdown could be interfaces (or clean-if-state?)
There are several scripts called (u)mount something. They should probably
be named according to what is handled by them, not by the command they use.
For example use net-filesystems or net-fs instead of the two scripts
(u)mountnfs that also do smb stuff.
Summarizing:
ifupdown -> interfaces (clean-if-state?)
(u)mountnfs -> net-fs
(u)mountvirtfs -> vfs/virtual-fs
(u)mount(all) -> local-fs
(u)mountkernfs -> devfs

This bug is being closed as part of a cleanup of the old bug
reports in the sysvinit package, in an attempt to make it easier
to address the bug reports which actually are fixable. Some
reasons:
- Not a bug and/or it's a patch which will not be applied
- It will not be fixed, ever for various reasons
- Problem is not fixable in sysvinit or not our responsibility
- A better solution has become available in the interim
- No activity or submitter response in over a decade or more
