Severity: normal
Linux boots with the following console options:
console=tty0 console=ttyS2,19200
so init's messages to console get sent to /dev/ttyS2, which in my case,
is attatched to a Wyse 85 terminal.
Funny thing is, if I issue the command "shutdown -h now" over the
network while the wy85 is powered off, the machine doesn't shut down.
It sends out "Machine is shutting down NOW" messages, puts a
init: Switching to runlevel: 6
in the syslog, and . . . sits there.
But as soon as I flick on the power switch on the serial terminal,
shutdown continues as it normally should.

This bug is being closed as part of a cleanup of the old bug
reports in the sysvinit package, in an attempt to make it easier
to address the bug reports which actually are fixable. Some
reasons:
- Not a bug and/or it's a patch which will not be applied
- It will not be fixed, ever for various reasons
- Problem is not fixable in sysvinit or not our responsibility
- A better solution has become available in the interim
- No activity or submitter response in over a decade or more
