Package: gitk
Severity: wishlist

The current version of gitk depends on version >= 8.4 of tk.
Unfortunately, this ancient version was not compiled with fontconfig
support and, as a result, it does not recognize some more readable fonts
that I have on my system (which are a lot more desireable than the
defaults that gitk sets).

I already compiled a private copy of gitk with such dependencies, it
works quite well and I would love to see the dependencies flexibilized
this way for the main distribution (actually, in all the platforms where
install git-*).

Let me just state that I do understand the desire to keep the dependency
as version-agnostic as possible on the system, but given that the
current depencency forcibly pulls in t{k,cl}8.4 without giving the user
an option that is already packaged, I think that such a change would be
welcome for some users already.

BTW, if desired, I can provide a patch (even though it would be mostly
trivial and changing, say, at most 4 lines of the debian/control file).

Thank you very much, Rogério.

Thanks again for your help on this. Fixed by tk --- reassigning and
closing.
