Once such an ifupdown package is available in the archive, I can drop the config from NetworkManager.conf and add a versioned Breaks against ifupdown. Bringing Guus into the loop here. Someone interested in this issue should probably file a proper bug report against the ifupdown package and mark this bug report by it.
