Hi everyone, the current discussion debian-devel about dpkg triggers [1], made me wonder if we should use them for packages installing dbus configuration files. Atm, we rely on the inotify support in dbus, to detect changes to the configuration (which is buggy [2] atm. Besides, there might be custom kernels around without inotify support). Some packages also manually reload dbus in postinst, some don't.
We could easily address this, by installing a triggers control file in dbus: interest /etc/dbus-1/system.d This would cause a trigger, whenever a file is modified in /etc/dbus-1/system.d. What do you think about that? Cheers, Michael [1] http://git.debian.org/?p=dpkg/dpkg.git;a=blob;f=doc/triggers.txt [2] http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dbus/2008-March/009523.html -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
