Ok, as per http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=379814 and a bit more tweaking I've split out the architecture independent files to an Arch all package for thunar and for xfdesktop4.
I think this is probably the way forwards - seems silly having lots of files which are always the same on every arch duplicated on the mirrors. http://the.earth.li/~huggie/xfce4-split/ I'd appreciate testers and comments. I'd like to upload them to experimental at some point to get the -data packages through NEW and then to unstable.
