That xfburn bug you dug up has nothing to do with your problem, it's a very outdated report that I'm going to close right now.
Xfburn btw. does work fine now in that situation, and it will automatically unmount the media if HAL is present (and I assume without HAL thunar probably doesn't do automounting). So possibly this is a bug you should file against brasero?
