This does not look like xfce4-terminal or gnome-terminal (the menus are not called like this, in xfce4-terminal 0.4.2 it's: File/Edit/View/Terminal/Go/Help and in gnome-terminal 2.28.2 it's File/Edit/View/Terminal/Help). What is it then? I'm not sure compositing works in qemu anyway, so the qemu test is not really helpful. I don't know your setup exactly, it's too messy, but basically what I need you to test and confirm is that: * compositing is enabled in Xorg (check in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, check it's not disabled in /etc/X11/xorg.conf) * compositing is enabled in Xfce, using xfwm (not interested in GNOME as I'm not sure metacity supports compositing etc. I can't say for sure). This is done in the “window manager tweaks” settings. * transparency is indeed working (like, title bar transparency, inactive window transparency etc. is confirmed working) * nor xfce4-terminal nor gnome-terminal show real transparency Can you do that for me?
