I installed http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.4/i386/iso-cd/ last week, tested the other machine with live cd of the same version, both seem to come with Gnome Terminal 2.22.3, ...hmm, switched from Metacity to Compiz and transparency now works :)
