Thanks for the suggestion; perhaps I should have been clearer -- I
never want to execute the scripts *from Thunar* :-) Much of my working
day consists of browsing a source tree in Thunar, opening scripts in
an editor, then running the script from a separate terminal window.
Perhaps more to the point, the source tree is under version control,
so chmod'ing isn't a scalable option.
